First Generation
1. Robert Burnet. Born in 1701 in Scotland, near Edinburgh. Robert died in 1774, he was 73.
Robert Burnet, progenitor of the Burnet family of New Windsor was a native of Scotland, near Edinburgh, from whence he emigrated about the year 1725. He first settled at Raritan N.J. where he followed his trade of a tailor. In 1729 he purchased of John Parker and Andrew Johnson, of Perth Amboy, 200 of the Andrew Johnson patent (now in New Windsor) lying south of the main road and adjoining the farm previously purchased by Peter Mullinder, paying for the same "60 pounds current money of the Province of New Jersey at eight shillings per pound," and accompanied by his brother, who subsequently returned to New Jersey, located in a log cabin and commenced the work of clearing and cultivation. He was also accompanied by John Reid, who purchased an adjoining farm lot, and whose daughter Ann, soon after became his wife. He was a Scot of pure type, six feet and two inches in height; a firm Presbyterian and a rigid disciplinarian, and his wife was reared in the same faith.
Served in French and Indian War under Capt. Ellison. Was on the 1738 Muster Roll Capt. Thomas Ellison's Co.
In 1730 when Robert was 29, he married Ann Reid, daughter of John Reid (bef 1700-1771)

Family of Robert Burnet & Ann Reid
2. James Burnet. Born on 25 Jan 1732. James died on 23 Dec 1807, he was 75. Buried in Little Britain Cemetery, Little Britain, NY.
He was an ensign in the Revolution in Capt. McClaughry's Company of Militia. He was in the 2nd Ulster Co. Regt. In the Revolution he was on his way to Fort Montgomery with reinforcements when the fort was taken and joined his men with General James Clinton's command at the Square, and marched to the defense of Kingston.
He had the eastern half of his father's farm, where his father lived after leaving the log cabin he built in 1729. He purchased the Cook farm from Rev. Thomas G. Smith, and gave to his son George. He remained on the homestead farm until 1801, when he sold to his son, Robert, and moved to the home of his son, George, where he died Dec. 23, 1807, and where his wife died July 28, 1808.
In 1760 when James was 27, he married Mary Nicholson, daughter of John Nicholson. Born in 1738. Mary died on 28 Jul 1808, she was 70.

x. George. (1779-1849)George married Mary Brown. Was given 55 acres (Rev.Thomas J. Smith farm of 50 + 5) by father. Bought 20 more acres. Mortgaged the farm and seems to have lost it.
3. John Burnet. Born in 1739. John died in OaksCorners, Phelpstown, Ontario Co. in 1824, he was 85.
John was a Major in Revolution in the 2nd Ulster County Regt. and was actively engaged on the frontier of Orange and Ulster, and under General Clinton in Sullivan's campaign against the Six Nations, and retired with the rank of Major. He resided on the western half of his father's farm which had been left him by his father, of which he sold 25 acres to his nephew, Robert, and later the remainder, and removed with his family to western New York.
John married Ghertie Charity Vandemark.
They had the following children:

iv. Elizabeth. (married Charles Humphrey. One of the company that put the first steamer on Cayuga Lake in connection with the Newburgh and Cochecton Turnpike.)
4. Robert Burnet. Born unknown. Robert died in 1790.
Lived on Salisbury Road, now called Station Rd., on farm later owned by Jackson, Jennurg, Stuart, Stone and others. Moved to Hamptonburg. 2nd Ulster County Regt. 5/24/1761 Capt. James Clinton's Co.
On 11 Apr 1773 Robert married Ann Nancy McClaughry, daughter of Patrick McClaughry (ca 1708-<7/24/1787) & Mary Reid, in 1st Reformed (Dutch) Church of Poughkeepsie. Born abt 1740.
They had the following children:

iv. Samuel. Occupation: Shoemaker. Samuel married Sarah Luckey.
v. Jane (Jean). Born in 1776. Jane (Jean) died in 1810, she was 34. Jane (Jean) married James Davis.
5. Mary Burnet. Born in 1742. Mary died in 1831, she was 89.
Mary married Neil McArthur.
They had the following children:
i. John.
ii. Alexander. Occupation: Printer. Worked for Solomon Southwick on "The Plough Boy" in Albany
iii. Neal.
iv. Henry. Occupation: Printer. Worked at "The Index" in Newburgh
v. Nancy. Nancy married Gray.
vi. Mary. Born in 1787. Mary died on 9 Mar 1847, she was 60. Buried in McClaughry Family Cemetery. Mary married Samuel Finley, son of John Finley (1739-12 Aug 1790) & Elizabeth McClaughry (1743-2 Jun 1816). Born in 1773. Samuel died on 15 Feb 1827, he was 54.
6. Sarah Burnet. Born in 1745. Sarah married Henry MacNeely.
They had the following children:

7. Thomas Burnet. Born in 1748. Thomas died in 1835, he was 87.
Thomas was a private in the Revolution. He served in the 2nd Ulster Co. Regt. He was taken with blindness at Ft. Montgomery, Pension $80.00 per year. His mother gave him 100 acres left her by her father, John Reid, which he had bought fom Samuel Boyd. Thomas sold it to John McLean and went "west" with his brother John about 1794.
On 22 Nov 1771 when Thomas was 23, he married Mary Johnston, in New York State.
They had the following children:
i. John. Born in 1772. John died in 1826, he was 54. John married Mary Burnet.
ii. Benjamin. Born in 1773. Benjamin died in 1863, he was 90.Benjamin married Mary Hornbeck.
iii. Robert. Born in 1777. Robert died on 7 Jun 1803, he was 26. Buried in little Britain Cemetery, Little Britain, NY. Moved to Webster, NY. Robert married Christina MacClaughry.
iv. Margaret. Margaret married James Hornbeck.
v. Elizabeth. Born in 1780. Elizabeth died in 1854, she was 74. Elizabeth married Stephen Dusenbury.
vi. James. Born in 1781. James died in 1836, he was 55. James married Mary Wooden.
vii. Isaac. Born in 1795. Isaac died in 1885, he was 90. Isaac first married Hannah Woodhull. Isaac second married Sarah Smith.
8. Patrick Burnet. Born in 1750. Patrick died on 27 Mar 1825, he was 75. Buried in Little Britain Cemetery, Little Britain, NY. Patrick lived north of The Square Farm sold by Hiram Burnet Jr. and Jane to David Ferguson in 1849
Patrick married Kaziah Cook. Born in 1750. Kaziah died on 27 Mar 1825, she was 75.

ii. Robert. Born in 1781. Robert died in 1807, he was 26.

Family of James Burnet & Mary Nicholson
9. Robert Reid Burnet. Born in 1762. Robert Reid died in Homestead in Little Britain, NY on 14 Nov 1854, he was 92.
Assemblyman for the State of NY 1800 - 1804. Robert was a 2nd Lt. in the Revolution and and original member of the Society of the Cincinnati.
Robert entered military service in the Revolution at the age of 16 years as one of a company of "cadets" as they called themselves; was present at the surrender of Burgoyne in 1777, and with his associates, accompanied as guard the Hession prisoners to Easton Pa. In 1782 at the age of 19, he was commissioned Lieutenant in Col, Lamb's artillery, and stationed at West Point. . He served to the end of the war, and bade good-bye to Washington at Fraunce's Tavern. He died at the Homestead in Little Britain, Nov.14,1854, in his 93rd year, and at that time was the last surviving original member of the Society of the Cincinnati. He purchased the homestead from his father in 1801.
On 9 Jun 1784 when Robert Reid was 22, he married Rachel DeWitt, daughter of Jacob Rutzen DeWitt (13 Apr 1729-18 Dec 1821) & Janneke (Jane) DePuy (abt 1735-18 Dec 1819). Born on 2 Nov 1762 in Rochester, Ulster County, NY. Rachel died in Little Britain, NY on 4 Apr 1830, she was 67.

12. Sarah Burnet.
Sarah married Andrew Keoim.

13. Charles Burnet. Born in 1768. Charles died in 1852, he was 84. Buried in Berea.
Charles married Elizabeth Kernochan.
They had the following children:
i. Margaret. Born in 1803. Margaret died in 1850, she was 47. Buried in Buried in Berea.
ii. Eliza. Born in 1801. Eliza died on 4 Feb 1872, she was 71. Buried in Washingtonville Cemetery. Eliza married James Shaw. Born in 1795. James died in 1882, he was 87.
iii. Mary F.. Born in 1814. Mary F. married Nathan M. Coleman.
14. James Burnet.
James married Mary Kernochan.

iv. Rachel. Born in 1808. Rachel died in 1883, she was 75. Rachel married Robert Brown.
v. Clinton. Clinton married Jane Henderson.

15. Thomas Burnet. Born in 1776. Thomas died in 1836, he was 60.
Thomas married Gracie Smith. Born in 1777. Gracie died in 1871, she was 94. Daughter of Rev. Thomas G. Smith

Jane First married Samuel Crawford. Samuel died in 1810.

i. Eunice Watkins. Born in 1808. Eunice Watkins died in 1902, she was 94. Eunice Watkins married Dr. James VanKeuren. Born in 1809. Dr. James died in 1868, he was 59.
Jane second married Captain John Finley, son of John Finley (1739-12 Aug 1790) & Elizabeth McClaughry (1743-2 Jun 1816). Born in 1772. John died on 9 Mar 1839, he was 67.

Charles first married Elizabeth Brown. Born in 1792. Elizabeth died on 7 Jan 1814, she was 22.

Joseph Barber married Elizabeth Scott, daughter of Sam Scott & Elizabeth Falls. Born on 8 Apr 1830. Elizabeth died on 18 Apr 1915, she was 85.

iii. Charles Fowler. Born in 1823. Charles Fowler died in 1900, he was 77. On 1872 Assessment Records, Town of New Windsor Charles Fowler married Mary Jane Coleman. Born in 1825. Mary Jane died in 1890, she was 65.
iv. Helen Eliza. Born in 1825. Helen Eliza died on 9 Jan 1851, she was 26. Buried in Little Britain Cemetery, Little Britain, NY.

22. Moses Burnet. Born in 1791. Moses died in 1876, he was 85. Was in the War of 1812. Was a Sheriff of Orange County Moved to Syracuse where his uncle Moses DeWitt (his mother's brother) was largely interested in real estate. Capt. 46th Regt 5/21 - 10/1/1814
Moses first married Margaret Barber, daughter of John Barber. Born in 1792. Margaret died on 14 Apr 1818, she was 26.
They had one child:
i. John Barber DeWitt.
Moses second married Mrs. Helen Creed From Syracuse.
They had no children.
23. Mary DeWitt Burnet. Born on 2 Dec 1796. Mary DeWitt died on 28 Oct 1841, she was 44. Buried in Little Britain Cemetery, Little Britain, NY.
Mary DeWitt married Samuel Hall. Born on 4 Mar 1784. Samuel died on 2 Mar 1864, he was 79. Samuel was an ancestor to Rev. Charles Cuthbert Hall, an eminent Presbyterian clergyman.
